There are 6 types of units that can be fielded in Star Wars: Legion. Standard 800 pt matches generally feature armies with 7-13 units (also called "activations") on each side. The units (and their upgrades) compromising an army is also called a "list". Points are used to balance between more powerful units and less powerful units. For example, a lowly rebel trooper squad only costs 40 pts, whereas Grand Master Yoda costs 200pts. To be legal, a list must have units and upgrades totaling not more than the limit for the game type (800 pts for standard matches). Additionally, there is a limit (and sometimes minimum) to how many of each type of unit must/can be fielded for use in standard play:
| Type | Icon | Standard Limit | Recon Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commander | 1-2 | 1 | |
| Operative | 0-2 | 0-1 | |
| Corps | 3-6 | 2-4 | |
| Special Forces | 0-3 | 0-2 | |
| Support | 0-3 | 0-2 | |
| Heavy | 0-2 | 0-1 |
