The rules of Star Wars: Legion have been subjected to several significant revisions since the initial release of the game in 2018. This page was most recently updated February 3rd, 2023, and reflects the current information as of that date.
The official rules for Star Wars: Legion are free, and available online. The Core Rulebook (CRB) is an approximately 60 page long PDF, available for free on the Atomic Mass Games website, which covers the different phases of gameplay and, critically, all the rules Keywords. The CRB itself is a living document that is updated as units and keywords are added to the game, or as different rules interaction prove to be problematic and require revision. While other rules tools and websites exist, all of them are ultimately based on the CRB (including the rules section of this Wiki).
Additionally, an important resource for understanding the rules is the Rules Forum of Atomic Mass Games. This site is a forum where users can submit a question to the AMG Legion Rules staff for an official ruling on a question. It is also used to clarify text in the CRB itself, and rulings from the Rules Forum are often included in revisions of the CRB. Rules Forum postings can often represent either very uncommon, niche "what-if" scenarios, or questions regarding interactions with rules for newer units or mechanics elements that produce unforeseen confusion.
There are four specialty documents that pertain to the rules, which can be found on the Atomic Mass Games Legion documents website. The first of these is the Legion Skirmish Rules, which explains how the standard 800 pt 6'x3' game is modified to the 500 pt 3'x3' skirmish format. The second is the Points Update, which compiles the changes to points for different units and upgrades. The last is the Errata Reference, which compiles all the changes to text on unit, command, battle, and upgrade cards that were made subsequent to the physical cards being printed. Finally, there is a Galactic Conquest Event Rules document that has information and rules for organizing and running competitive Legion events.
PAST RULES[]
From 2018-2022, the full rules were contained in a document called the SWL Rules Reference Guide (RRG). The RRG was an approximately 100 page long PDF, available for free on the FFG (then Atomic Mass Games) website, and had several revisions and updates. In January 2023, it was replace by the Core Rule Book, and all previous editions of the RRG are now obsolete.
Formerly, the core rule sets included a copy of the "Learn to Play" Guide. The Learn to Play (LtP) is a short, physical hardcopy booklet that gives an introduction to the basics of SWL gameplay. The LtP was not updated as some of the rules changed, and was not included as a updated document with the January 2023 rules update. Therefore, the document is obsolete.
